Research for Patient Benefit (RfPB) Programme - Overview
- Will support projects in the Health Services Research and Public Health arenas, based on quantitative or qualitative methods
- Will fund high quality, investigator led research of relevance to the NHS
- Will support research related to the day-to-day practice in areas identified by health service staff themselves and developed by them with appropriate high quality academic input
- Will be modelled on the old regional funding streams for applied and practice based research
- Will select proposals for funding on the basis of both the quality of the research and the relevance of research to the broader NHS
- Open access to all researchers across England
- Up to £25 million per year will be available for this scheme
- 9 regional commissioning panels will be convened, corresponding to GO regions
- A local chair will be appointed in each region
- Regional budget allocated on a per population basis
- Each panel will meet 3 times a year
- Maximum grant £250k, 3 years duration
- Single stage application process
- All electronic application and assessment process will be developed
- Administered by the NIHR Central Commissioning Facility (NIHRCCF)
